‘Empowering Nature’ – a community-led response to proposed National Grid NSIPs - 04th November 2026

This webinar is part of a series of sessions for parish and town councils in Suffolk affected by Nationally Significant Infrastructure Projects (NSIPS). Whether you are new to NSIPs or have more experience of the process, we are covering themes that are relevant to all.
Join us on Wednesday 4 November on Zoom, 1pm, when speaker Sharon Smith, Clerk of Saxmundham Town Council, will introduce Empowering Nature – a community-led concept created in response to two proposed National Grid NSIPs, which could bring two converter stations to the area.
While the Town Council remains firmly opposed to the siting of converter stations – on the edge of Saxmundham, Empowering Nature recognises the importance of planning for all possible outcomes. It sets out a positive, forward-looking approach – one that seeks to secure meaningful environmental improvements and long-term benefits for the community if the projects proceed.
Sharon will give a 30-minute presentation, followed by 30 minutes of Q&As.
The session will cover matters including:
- About the NSIP
- The town council’s role in the process
- What is mitigation
- How Empowering Nature happened and who was involved
- What next for Empowering Nature?
The NSIP process is complex and time consuming, but this webinar aims to provide practical, informative and easy-to-understand insight.
