At SALC, we’re always looking for ways to strengthen how we share information, support one another, and celebrate good practice across our team. That’s why we’re excited to introduce our Knowledge Champions a new initiative designed to help us work smarter, stay connected, and make the most of our collective experience.

What is a knowledge champion?

A Knowledge Champions maintains an overview of key topic areas on behalf of SALC, helping to ensure that the advice and guidance we provide to councils is consistent, accurate, and up to date. They will also play an important role in encouraging collaboration and meaningful, supportive interaction, creating a culture where we learn from one another and share what works best.

What are the benefits?

By connecting clerks and councils with the right specialist, we ensure support is timely, relevant, and practical, helping councils operate more effectively and confidently.

What can Knowledge Champions offer?

Knowledge Champions are here to support member councils and their clerks by sharing expertise, guidance, and best practice.

This approach streamlines the management of requests and ensures every enquiry is matched with the right Knowledge Champion for the topic or area of expertise. This means you get the most relevant advice and support quickly and efficiently.

Importantly, Knowledge Champions can:

·       Provide Expert Guidance: Offer practical advice on key topic areas to help councils operate effectively.

·       Share Best Practice: Highlight examples and approaches that have worked well in other councils.

·       Encourage Collaboration: Facilitate knowledge sharing and learning across councils.

·       Support Decision-Making: Offer insight to help councils make informed decisions.

·       Act as a Point of Contact: Serve as a reliable first point of contact for specialist queries.

Accessing a Knowledge Champion

To access a Knowledge Champion:

  1. Submit your request through enquiries on the SALC member portal

  2. Your enquiry will be reviewed and assigned to the most appropriate Knowledge Champion.

  3. The Knowledge Champion will respond with make contact with you directly to offer guidance, resources, and follow-up support if needed.
