Parish Clerk and RFO
Due to the retirement of the current post holder, a vacancy exists for parish clerk and responsible financial officer (RFO) – Laxfield.
It’s an exciting opportunity for an efficient and friendly person to work with a pro-active group of councillors, to deliver the Neighbourhood Plan and make things happen within Laxfield.
The clerk is the Proper Officer of the council and, working from home, is responsible for preparing financial statements, budgeting, producing agendas, recording minutes, keeping financial records, budget monitoring, offering legal advice, updating policies and procedures - and executing the decisions made by councillors. There are other duties associated with the running of the cemeteries, recreation ground, play area, roads and footpaths.
The role is 15 hours per week worked on a flexible basis, mainly from home. Attendance at parish council meetings is mandatory and these take place at 7 pm on the second Monday of each month excluding August and December. Attendance is also required at a number of other working groups and committees. Salary is at SCP 21. Expenses are paid and a laptop and mobile telephone are provided.
The successful applicant will have excellent organisational, communication, IT Skills and be a team player. Previous knowledge is desirable but not essential as full training will be given. It is anticipated that the successful candidate will start by November 2026, and a comprehensive handover can be given by the current clerk. The current clerk will also help prepare financial budget setting information for 2027/28, to feed into the December Finance Committee.
